About SV Escapade

Escapade is a Bruce Roberts Spray 460A cutter rigged yacht. She was built by Mark and Simone at their property in East Gippsland over 13 years.

  • Length on deck -14m
  • Beam – 4.75m
  • Draft – 1.8m
  • Air draft – 21m
  • Displacement – 25 tonne
  • Hull construction – steel (keel 6mm, hull 5mm , deck & superstructure 4mm)
  • Engine – Cummins 4BT 150hp turbo diesel (keel cooled with wet exhaust)
  • Fuel capacity – 1500 litres
  • Water capacity – 800 litres
  • Generator – Onan
  • Steering – Hydrive dual helm manual hydraulic
  • Desalinator – Aqua-Base XA223 100 Ltr/hr
  • Primary anchor – 40kg Sarca Excel with 90m x 13mm chain
  • Secondary anchor – 40kg Sarca Excal with 10m x 13mm chain and 70m x 20mm Nylon
  • Anchor windless – Muir VRC 3500 electric
  • Refrigeration – Isotemp CR200 fridge freezer and Waeco 40 litre
  • Electronics – Simrad VHF, chartplotter, autopilot, radar, AIS

The build:

Build the shed to build the boat
October 2007 – The build starts with erecting the jigs
Bottom plates laid and floor frames are up
Ready for hull plating
Hull plating complete with sponson and stainless toe rail
Deck and pilot house plated – now time for the detail
Now for the fiddle bits – stainless window surrounds, vents and hand rails
Bowsprit and hand rails
The worst job of all – abrasive blasting and painting (inside and out)

Fast forward 10 years……………

October 2019 – It’s time to come out of the shed
