Mark, Georgie, Lucy and I all agree that we much prefer anchorages where there is a beach with sand, but this of course is dependent on which way the wind is blowing.
Our next destination was going to be Cygnet, but with a couple of warm days coming up, Mark found a beach that was suitable for anchorage for the forecast north easterlies. We departed Port Esperance at 1323 with less than ½ metre swell and an easterly breeze of 5-10 knots arriving at Randall’s Bay at 1500.
On arrival we noticed a crowd on the beach. We put the dinghy in the water and went ashore at the far end of the beach away from the crowd. There were a number of small wooden sailing boats and 2 rigid inflatables. After returning to Escapade, one of the rigid inflatables with 2 men and a lady onboard came over to quiz Mark on our boat.
The wooden boat festival is held every 2 years with the festival this year being cancelled because of COVID. A number of Wooden Boat Club members were completing a sail trail from Rechearche Bay to Huonville. The two inflatables were there as support vessels. It appeared to be a very well organised event.
