Saturday 27th May to Tuesday 31st May – Roslyn Bay, Yeppoon

Saturday

We arrived at Keppel Bay Marina around mid morning. The marina had a courtesy car that can be booked for 2 hours at a time, which was awesome as Yeppoon township was 8km from the marina. We mapped out a plan of attack and managed to get all of our jobs completed including the supermarket and lunch within the allocated time…nothing like a challenge!

Sunday

The marina is surrounded by some nice sized hills, that were just begging to be climbed. They were only short walks but well worth the effort as the view was excellent. The first hill we climbed had a constructed track which was great and the views were nice, but the neighbouring was higher and offered better views of the marina and across the bay to Great Keppel Island. We found a goat track and followed by another 5 people we scrambled to the top, it was worth the effort 😊

Birds eye view of Keppel Bay Marina
The south east trade winds are good for paragliding too!

Monday

Unfortunately, today was job day…and making the most of town water and power we washed and scrubbed the decks, removed all the fly screens off the hatches and the mats from the floor and gave them a good clean and wash. The floor was vacuumed and washed, clothes were washed and if anything, even remotely looked like it was dirty it was scrubbed to within an inch of its life. Mark sprayed the windlass motor and gear box with a rust inhibitor and wrapped it with denzo tape as well as freeing up the anchor hatch latch which was becoming tight. Escapade looked “sweet as” once we were done.

Tuesday

We got up at 0600, took Lucy for a quick walk, had breakfast and were preparing the boat to leave the marina and head north when Mark realised that we would not be able to leave until 1100 hours as the tide was on the way down and we only had 0.4 metres below the keel with another hour to go. His concern was that with the slight swell coming into the marina as we motored out might cause us to hit the bottom.

As a result, we changed our plan for the day, instead of going to Pearl Bay a voyage that would take 8 hours, we would go back to Great Keppel Island for the night, and then tomorrow we’d depart GKI for Pearl Bay.

The minor inconveniences we experience with a change of plans or weather do not even compare with what our family, friends and workmates are going through in Victoria with COVID lockdown No 4. Please take care and stay safe.

Morning walk….

  1. Wish I had realised you were at Roslyn Bay, I would have sent some of my young relatives down to show you around! They are in The Surf Club and paddle a lot, etc! We do the walking tracks around there when we are staying inYeppoon. My nephew takes my sister to Roslyn Bay for coffee quite often too! Xxxx

  2. Even I have been to Roslyn Bay Marina for a meal. Great part of the world! Xxx
