Sunday 28th December 2020 – Deal Island

It was a terrible night of rolling in East Cove (which included getting up at 1am to reset the anchor) so at 7:30am we motored around to Garden Cove and dropped anchor there. Much calmer, so it was back to bed for 4 hours.

At 12:00 we took Lucy for a dinghy ride before leaving her on board and heading to shore to catch up with Vicki and Shane who were working on signs at the beach.

Later that afternoon Mark and Georgie constructed Lego whilst I had a nanny nap. We then blew up the SUPs in preparation for paddling the next day.

Later that afternoon sailing catamarans Music Maker (of Paynesville) and Nooramunga (of Port Albert – formerly Chris & Judy’s boat “Resolution”) arrived.

  1. By the time you finish your round the country cruising, rolly nights will be acceptable providing anchor is set and reliable. Did you see Indians head as you sailed south out of the passage or did you leave for Flinders from Garden Cove? A fair wind and smooth sailing Spykers, regards Stx.

    1. Hi Stx – Deal and Flinders were certainly a baptism of fire anchoring wise – the amount of chain out is directly proportional to the quality of your sleep. In the first 48 hours I think I managed to get 2 hours sleep in 25-30 knots! We departed Deal from Garden Cove around to the east and forgot all about checking out the Indians head. Cheers, Mark
