We loaded the rubbish and shopping bags into the dinghy and headed for town. On arrival we tied up to one of the floating jetties and walked towards shore – Georgie with Lucy on her lead. When we reached the boardwalk a Bull Terrier that was sitting on the front seat of a ute nearby started barking and before we knew it, it had jumped out of the car window and was heading for us. In a flash the dog had bitten Georgie on the arm and had pushed Lucy off the 3m high wharf into the water. The owner, who had been working on a fishing boat nearby had heard the commotion and managed to call off his dog and return it to his ute (he was genuinely concerned with what had happened).
As a result poor Georgie ended up with a puncture wound to her forearm and Lucy had to be pulled from the water. After a brief sit down to regroup we went in search of the local health care centre only to find that it was closed so we headed to the local chemist where we consulted with the Pharmacist, and got the wound cleaned and dressed.
After eventually getting the groceries we headed back to the boat, pulled up anchor and with a 15-20 knot easterly wind motor sailed over to Shoal Bay on Maria Island. What a morning!!
Oh No !! Hope Georgies arm heals well , terrible frightening incident for you all .
