Saturday 13th February 2021 – Simmonds Bay to Snug Bay

It was a pretty sleepless night with 30 knots of wind blowing for most of the night. Thankfully the following day’s forecast was for a partly cloudy day with 10 knots of wind from the south west. We were getting low on water so Mark ran the water maker and I did the washing whilst Georgie vacuumed (for a fee of course!) In-between tasks we polished the handrails, dive ladder, dorade vents and mast stay-turn buckles. Once the washing was dry we we picked up anchor and headed for Snug Bay. On the way we passed two separate boats towing fish pens. One was doing 2 knots whilst the other was doing only ½ a knot.

Snug is a small coastal town on Tassie’s mainland, 30 kilometres south of Hobart. In January 1967 a terrible bushfire tore through the small town leaving a trail of devastation burning 80 buildings out of 120. A commemorative park which borders the beach has been named Black Tuesday in memory of that fateful day.
