Friday 26th February – Recherche Bay

It was blowing 25 knots with scattered showers, we picked a break in the rain and took Lucy ashore for a good run along the beach as she wouldn’t be able to leave the boat whilst we were at Port Davey.

While I ran Lucy up and down the beach, Mark and Georgie went and checked the weather at the information shelter where you could get WiFi. They then went for a walk along the rocks and checked out a whale sculpture.

By the time we got back to the boat there were now 9 yachts moored in Recherche most we assumed were preparing for the trip to Port Davey at first light Saturday morning.

To be honest, we were a touch nervous as this would be a new level of sailing in bigger seas that we had not previously experienced before. We would be sailing in the Southern Ocean around the South West coast of Tasmania. Mark listened to the weather report for the last time prior to our departure to ensure that the forecast had not changed. Even though we have been sailing alone, it was comforting to know that other yachts would be making the same voyage.
