Tuesday 5th January 2021 – Cooks Corner/Wine Glass Bay – Freycinet Peninsula

A lot of hikers walk up the beach completing a loop that starts at Coles Bay and goes past Wine Glass Bay.

Mark and Georgie caught 6 flathead (plus another 7 which were under size) and a 40cm salmon from the boat within about 30 minutes. Now that’s Mark’s kind of fishing! Lucy loved being involved in the fishing, she would watch closely as Mark reeled in the fish and Georgie picked it up in the net. Once the fish was in the bucket she would watch it to make sure it was not going to escape.

The Salmon put up a bit more of a fight than the Flathead

We have been really mindful to make sure we involve Lucy in all boat-based activities to ensure that she is mentally stimulated – especially considering she’s unable to go ashore where its National Park. She loves going in the dinghy. Her favourite position is at the bow with her two front legs resting on the pontoon. We tie a rope to her life jacket just to make sure she does not try and jump out of the dinghy in all her excitement.

In the afternoon we headed across to Promise Bay and walked over to Wine Glass Bay. We took glasses and a bottle of wine for the mandatory photo of a glass of wine in Wineglass Bay! Wineglass Bay is gorgeous but because of the large swell that was rolling and breaking surf it was not overly relaxing. It would be really nice on a calm day. There were a number of people just sitting or walking along the beach. There were yachts in the bay rolling back and forth so it looked like an uncomfortable anchorage.

Georgie has decided that she wants to handle our grocery shopping budget as per the show “Teenage Boss”. The way it works is we have an allocated budget per month for grocery shopping. First, she puts an amount against each category i.e. Vegetables $80, Meat $100 etc. Each time we purchase groceries Georgie has to keep the receipt and deduct the purchases from the allocated budget. Georgie will ensure that we do not go over budget. She analyses the prices and looks for a cheaper price. Any money that is saved at the end of the month she will keep as pocket money. Stay tuned!! 😊
